The following Report highlights the commitment that the Board has made to integrate technology in our District.

  • The Synergy Media Management systems at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School and Colonial Middle School. These Media Management systems allow teachers to schedule videos to their rooms and remotely control VCRs and laser discs in the media center. It also allows the building to control all of the TV’s in the building from one location. Phoenix is a web based program that now allows the teacher in the classroom to control VHS, laser discs, and now DVDs.

  • AlterNet performance released Assessment Builder allowing local assessments to be created electronically and result scanned to update the Performance Tracker system.  Integration of the SchoolMAX student data system and AlterNet performance has taken place allowing drill down capabilities to the classroom level.

  • The new Point of Sale system was installed in PWHS and CMS.  The equipment was installed on October 25 at Colonial Middle School and October 26 and October 27 at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School.  The PoS food service software program was integrated with SchoolMAX to allow the PoS system to have current student information.

  • The district contracted with LetterGrade to introduce a new grading system into CSD.  A new server was purchased and installed for training on November 8th.  The system was to be piloted at Colonial Elementary School.  After a successful deployment, the system will be rolled out in K-3 buildings.  All scheduling has been completed for Colonial Elementary, report cards have been set up (K-5) and the system has been integrated with SchoolMAX.

  • Student pictures were inserted into the Point of Sale system at CMS and PWHS to identify student using the system without ID cards.  Also, student pictures were added to SchoolMAX using the web interface to optimize security aspect of the system.

  • In December, a video security system was added to the district network.  The system was web based, providing the security staff the ability to monitor activity at anytime from any location. The web based solution will also allow remote access from outside the district for Paul Antal in case issues occur on off-school hours.

  • A new video surveillance system was installed on district buses.  Software was installed on the Director of Transportation’s computer as well as the principals in CMS, CES and PWHS.  This software allows bus video signals to be sent across the network.  This will also give us the ability to send video clips to the police in a court approved format.

  • Free and reduced lunch data from Caftrac was integrated into SchoolMAX.  Also, a procedure was setup for getting regular updates from Caftrac into SchoolMAX for state reporting.

  • New web filtering system (Surf Control).

  • PWHS Library renovation was completed.  All 50 computers were brought out of storage, cleaned, and imaged during the last week of November. The 28 computers were setup in the lab and 19 machines placed in the main area of the library. New LCD monitors were installed with all machines in the new

  • Wireless system installed in PWHS.  The wireless system encompasses the entire building.

  • 49 Smart Boards and ELMO units were installed in PWHS and CMS this summer.  The focus areas were Social Studies and Language Arts in PWHS and Science and the 6th Grade in CMS.

  • The Classroom of the Future Grant was awarded on September 20th and is a landmark program in terms of both educational technology and large-scale high school reform and will become a model for other states. Pennsylvania will be the first state to combine “smart” classrooms and laptop computers in Math, English, Science and Social Studies classrooms with professional development for teachers. The Colonial School District has identified the Social Studies curriculum as our starting point and in year two and three of the grant we will expand the initiative as long as the state continues to fund the project.

The Board has changed its perspective from maintaining outdated systems to implementing new, cutting edge systems.  Receiving the Classroom for the Future Grant shows how far technology has come in Colonial School District.
